How to Reduce Business Electricity Prices for Serviced Offices
If you are using a serviced office the chances are that you just use the supplier provided by your landlord but there may be options for you to reduce your costs.
Have you looked at the prices of your business electricity in your serviced office recently as the chances are that your landlord may be not passing on the benefits and even adding on a premium when they bill you for their services each month so you certainly won’t be getting the best prices that are on the market.
Although some landlords won’t allow you to get your business electricity direct some will and it’s worth looking at the terms and conditions of your contract to see how they charge you and if you are able to negotiate directly with the big energy providers.
The tariffs for business electricity vary widely so if this is not an area you have looked at before now is the time. So here is our advice on what to do this week:
- firstly check your serviced office contract to see if you are able to have your own direct electricity supply
- if you are not sure ask your landlord or the secretarial services department as they will have to split the electricity supplies to each unit so they know how much to charge each business each month
- also ask your landlord who currently supplies electricity to all the units and if they add a premium on top of the bills they receive from the energy provider
- once you have the information to hand and if you are able to get a specific contract for your premises you are ready to start getting the best prices for your serviced office
Getting the best deals for serviced office electricity supplies
The same advice is prevalent to any business who can negotiate terms and conditions for their energy including electric and gas supplies for their premises. You can either go to all the big 6 energy companies’ websites and enter your details (you generally only need your meter number and business address details to start the process) and then compare the quotes you receive (and then call the company who you like and perhaps has the best quote in your area to negotiate the terms and prices further down) or you can call on the services of a specialised energy broker.
There are a few main brokers who look after big businesses and small business owners alike and they undertake all the leg work for you and find the best deals. If you don’t have the time or knowledge of the market to hand then these people can help you get the best prices for your business.
Most business energy contracts offer fixed prices for a fixed period of time from one to three years so don’t expect variable priced contracts. Additionally for micro businesses (those with less than 10 employees) there are new terms whereby the energy company must write to you when your contract is coming to an end and this is to stop the automatic rolling over of contracts for another year. So check out your electricity contract if you have a serviced office and save money this week.
