Overview of Opus Energy
Opus are an independent supplier of business energy who started trading in 2002 and are part owned by international power PLC and telecom plus who trade under the name of Utility Warehouse. Opus offer various levels of supply depending on whether you are a small business or need a larger corporate solution for larger businesses.

When you take out an electricity tariff with Opus they will also offer your business a smart meter to be installed at your premises. These meters take a reading every 30 minutes and transmit that data back to a centralised technology system so you can then monitor and analyse your own energy consumption and make changes where appropriate. The quote system is a little slower than their main competitors in that you can’t currently get an instant online quote via their website but if you email them or telephone their call centre you’ll have a quote within 48 hours. This is not ideal but may be worth it if they can save your business money on electricity and gas in the longer term.

Although Opus can supply small and larger businesses alike one of their pioneering offerings is to be able to purchase your electricity directly from the wholesale market place with their help. This is called Opus Evolution (aimed at larger businesses) where you are able to see the current pricing on the wholesale market and buy your electricity needs there and then via desktop software.
Where normally business electricity and gas contracts are for fixed periods at fixed prices the Opus Evolution allows you to buy at the current rates for variable contract lengths so you are not tied into a long fixed term and priced contract. Businesses with 20 or more sites can apply for this type of energy contract and with this comes a dedicated account manage to help you manage the process yourself.
Cleaner Greener Energy
For most customers with Opus you’ll be buying a contract directly though them rather than managing the purchasing yourself and Opus are dedicated to much cleaner energy. Over the last 2 years 70% of the energy that customers have been supplied with has come from clean low carbon sources with 33% from CHP (combined heat and power generators) and 37% from renewable generators generally small scale hydro power which is bought in mainly from the UK (30.8%) and Scandanavia (60.8%) although some is from the Switzerland and France.
