British Gas Brands Explained

British Gas operates through three arms: British Gas, British Gas Business and British Gas Lite, with a fourth, British Gas Plus having ceased trading.

British Gas

British Gas is one of the Big Six energy supply companies. They are owned by Centrica PLC. British Gas supplies electricity and gas to homes across the UK. Customers with account numbers that begin with A or BGX or 85 are British Gas residential customers.

British Gas Business

British Gas Business is the business energy arm of British Gas. British Gas Business provides commercial electricity and commercial gas tariffs to 350,000 SMEs and enterprise businesses in the UK. Customers with account numbers beginning with 60 or 67 are British Gas Business customers.

British Gas Lite

British Gas Lite is an online-only service and a separate supplier to British Gas. This means that if you’re a British Gas Lite customer, you have to call British Gas Lite when you have a question. British Gas customer service representatives will have no record of your account. If your account number begins with BGL, then you are British Gas Lite customer.

British Gas Lite provide business gas and business electricity to SMEs and micro businesses.

British Gas Plus

British gas Plus was a service for customers on half hourly meters. While British Gas Plus existing customers can view their account information, this brand no longer accepts new customers, as these accounts have been migrated to British Gas business energy accounts. Existing British Gas Plus customers have been provided with A British Gas Business account number beginning in 60 or 67 and they can use this to log in to their bills.

British Gas for Businesses

British Gas supplies gas and electricity to businesses of all sizes. Of course, this trusted supplier caters to all kinds of commercial needs. Flexible, long-term, and multi-fuel contracts are available. 

For a fixed-rate tariff, customers will usually be offered contract lengths from 1 - 4 years. The unit price (cost per kWh) and the standing charge will usually increase based on the length of the term.
